Light
Rhapis excelsa, or Lady Palm, prefers bright, indirect light but can tolerate lower light conditions, making it suitable for offices or shaded indoor areas. Avoid strong direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaf tips and cause browning.
Watering
Allow the top few centimeters of soil to dry out between waterings. Water thoroughly, ensuring good drainage, and reduce watering during winter. Lady Palm enjoys moderate to high humidity—using a pebble tray or humidifier can help maintain healthy foliage, especially in drier indoor environments.
Soil and repotting
Use a well-draining potting mix with added materials like bark, sand, or perlite to support healthy root growth. Repot every 2–3 years or when the plant becomes root-bound, preferably in spring. Choose a sturdy pot, as the plant can become top-heavy over time.
